Stonewall counties. In 1936, the Trust purchased the Farmer
Ranch, and these ranches were all operated by Beggs Brothers.
In 1941, Ed Farmer Beggs and George Beggs III started a cattle
operation on part of the family’s holdings in Dickens and King
counties. Beggs Brothers branded their cattle with a lazy 3 on
the left hip. The partnership formed by Ed and George wanted
to use a brand not previously registered, and their father, having
long had ties with Great Britain, suggested the English Pound
mark (£).
This new brand met all the requirements, and was registered
as the brand for the partnership and later for the Beggs Cattle
Company.
In the late 1940s, the Beggs Brothers partnership was dis-
solved as the original three brothers retired. The third genera-
tion, George Beggs III, took over the day-to-day operations, and
in 1950 incorporated all the ranches as Beggs Cattle Company.
Today, the Beggs Cattle Company raises commercial cattle and
quarter horses. Ed Farmer Beggs II operates the ranches located
in Parker County, while his brother, George Beggs IV, manages
ranches located in King, Kent, Stonewall, Dickens, Garza and
Cochran counties.
