ALEDO, TEXAS, June 2, 2023 –Moncrief Quarter Horses announced Friday, June 2 that Royal Fletch had been laid to rest at the age of 26 at the ranch in Aledo, Texas. Bred by the Royal Blue Dually Partnership, the 1997 chestnut stallion was sired by NCHA Open and Non-Pro World Champion Cutting horse Jae Bar Fletch ($425,122) and out of the daughter of #1 All-Time Leading Cutting Producer Royal Blue Boon.
The stallion was purchased by Kathy Daughn and Kit Moncrief and earned more than $235,000, becoming the 2008 NCHA Open Futurity Champion, who held the all-time high score of 229 until 2008. Royal Fletch not only marked an event-record score but made history by assisting cutting horse trainer Kathy Daughn to become the first woman to win two NCHA Futurity Open Division Championship titles (1985 and 2000).
After his performance career Kit and C.B. Moncrief entered a partnership with Burnett Ranches, LLC to stand him to the public. The stallion proved to be an accomplished and consistent sire of champions in cutting, reined cow horse, reining and ranching events with earnings in excess of $1.9 million. His top performers include NCHA Limited Non-Pro Derby Co-Reserve Champion Honkytonk Diva ($175,594). Other standout performers include NCHA World Champion Metro Fletch ($132,188), AQHA Reserve World Champion Senior Working Cow Horse Fabulous Fletch ($115,430), NRCHA Open Futurity Finalist Royal Smart Fletch ($93,183), NSHA Open Stock Horse Classic Champion Peppys Royal Outlaw ($91,263), and NRCHA Int. Open Stallion Stakes Reserve Champion and Limited Open Champion Playing Fletch ($64,194).
Moncrief Ranch Manager, Mike Luttrell, assisted in managing the stallion. “He was a great performer and a great sire,” said Luttrell, his voice breaking with emotion. “And he loved peppermints.”
Luttrell confirmed that Royal Fletch will remain available through frozen semen at Weatherford Equine and Four Sixes Ranch.
